One of Canada's true gems, gone too soon. I was blessed to see Jeff perform fairly early in his career at Mount Royal college in Calgary. Luckily some of my colleagues there knew what a blues fan I was and came and pulled me out of the library saying "you gotta see this dude play guitar on his lap and he's blind." He lost his sight at the age of one from retinoblastoma, a rare form of eye cancer, and started playing the guitar at the age of three, which is pretty amazing. I believe he was quickly discovered south of the border by the late, great Stevie Ray Vaughn and blues great Albert Collins, who helped his secure a record contract. His debut album "See the Light" is chocked full of timeless tunes. Jeff later ventured into jazz in early 2000 and then before his death in 2008 from cancer, he returned to the blues, releasing "Mess of Blues" which I think is a masterpiece. Fortunately for Jeff's fans, his close friend Roger Costa has been putting out unreleased tracks of Jeff's so his legacy lives on to be enjoyed by old and new fans alike.
