I did it for love
I don’t question you your honor
I did it for love”
Harlequin had three really solid albums between 1979 and 1982. I had forgotten a lot of the songs until recently. Having only the greatest hits disc in my collection I went back to the records, um downloads to rediscover what isn’t included on Harlequin Greatest Hits.
Victim Of A Song from 1979 has the hits, You Are The Light, Sweet Things In Life, and Survive but also contains five or six other reasonably good songs like Barely Alive. The band kept getting better and better as new albums came along. 1981’s Love Crimes is a very good album throughout with main hits like Innocence, Love On The Rocks, Thinking Of You, and Can’t Hold Back. Other songs like Wait For The Night and Heaven (Dial 999) make this worth buying if you could ever find it on CD. By the time 1982 rolled around, Harlequin had mastered their art and came out with One False Move. This album contained their biggest hit that most people remember from the radio which was I Did It for Love. I liked Heart Gone Cold and Superstitious Feeling even better. Several other decent songs round out this recording. In 1985 the band had another hit with Take This Heart on the album simply called Harlequin.
The voice and main creative force of Harlequin is George Belanger. The band has become a staple at classic rock events in Canada . Relying on a large selection of radio hits, Harlequin puts on a good show every time.
“There's trouble up ahead, my mind is flashing red
And evil's just around the bend
You're in a cold embrace lost without a trace
It's gettin' very near the end”
